Hello and Welcome! As you can see, i have made this website about my passion in life: Vintage & Antique Toys. Since i can remember, i have always loved Old Toys of the past. It’s a beautiful memory into the beautiful toys of days past. Not only did i have fun playing with them, but it helped remind me of the great Action Figures of the past. And you can never put a price on great memories. So let’s talk about antique toys. But let’s make sure that we understand “antique” before we talk about vintage & antique toys.
In a nutshell, “antiques” are objects or products that have resale value because of there age, limited supply, features, or because of it’s uniqueness. It brings into the picture of a generation of the past. Generally speaking, and the tme period can vary, but a collectible is considered “antique if it is 100 Years Old or more. But, in many places, this time span can be shortened to 25 years or so.
From a collectors point of view, they love to collect antique toys as well. You may not think that initially, but they do. Hey, if there is money to be made, then collectors have no preference when it comes to collecting Vintage Antique stuff, and there is money to be made in the Vintage Antique Toy business. Now there are 2 types of antique toys to choose from.
The first one has to do with antique toys of the past. You can find these in the ground by digging. For example, the toys of the Mesopotamian civilization were found this way. But you have to be mindful of the laws that govern this type of antique. You cannot just pick up these toys because they are considered property of the local government. So if you are on some digging expedition and you find toys in this manner, then you would need to hand them to the government under which it was found. It sucks, i know, but laws are laws.
So how the process works is that the governing body will do some carbon dating to get an idea of how old the antique toy is, and then after that will decide whether to:
- Do some further tests to find out some more information on the vintage toy, or
- Give it to the local government museum for the public to enjoy
NOTE: These types of antiques can NOT be sold or resold. It is a criminal offense and punishable by the ordinances of the precurring governmental body. So in other words, DON’T DO IT!Now let’s the discuss the other type of vintage antique toys. These are the ones that i am more familiar with, and it’s the ones of recent past. How these work are that after a short while AFTER the toy has been stopped for production, the maker will make some in limited supply for people to buy. Now these are not NEW toys, but people buy them for there vintage models. Or n another instance, people that bought the original toy when it was being made decide to sell the vintage toy in the open market to see what they can get for it, and if it has some antique value, then they could get some good money for it. Ofcourse there are certain factors that play into the amount that that person can get, but sometimes the amount is significant. The place that these people sell these toys are either garage sales or online auctions, wherever they feel that they can get the most value.
